Check Meters: If
a customer is suspected of stealing electricity it is necessary to
determine how and how much he is stealing. The check meter’s accuracy,
compact size and radio communication assure an accurate, clandestine and
low cost method of measuring - the exact
amount of energy the suspect account is using. . The check meter is
installed at the pole, mid span, in a transformer vault or hand hole. The
consumption recorded by the check meter is compared to the revenue meters
consumption If there is a difference, theft or revenue meter malfunction
is indicated. The check meter can also be used to monitor the energy used
on the secondary of a distribution transformer serving several customers
and compared to the sum of all the meters usage. The UPC check meter CM 4X
has an internal radio transmitter which continuously transmits the meter reading every
30 seconds. This transmission is monitored by a check meter
reader CMR III up to 500 feet (150 meters) away to insure covert
operation. The UPC check meter is a "universal meter". The check
meters operate over a voltage range of 120 - 366/600 volts, 50 or 60 HZ,
and can be used without modification on 2 wire, 3 wire, 4 wire star and Delta service.
The meters can be supplied with various size current transformers
depending on the load being monitored. The current transformers are
available in 200 amp to 6000 amps per phase. The clamp-on transformers are
also available with different diameter cores to facilitate the larger and
multiple cable configurations.
